In 2011, Wombat received one Trophy for the Best 100% Hunter Valley Red Wine and another Trophy for the Best 2010 White Wine at Hunter Valley wine shows, as well as top gold, gold, silver and bronze medals from the local wine shows.

On March 1 we released our 2007 "Hermit's Block" Individual Paddock Hunter Valley Shiraz at the cellar door.  A ripper of a red - please order some or come to the cellar door to try it!

And why not book and stay at the vineyard in the new self-contained Burrows Lodge - for 2 couples on a weekend.  Members receive 3 days for the price of two, with a further 10% discount.

Experience some outstanding single vineyard boutique wines, released with approporiate bottle age, from our unique cellar door, in a lovely country setting in rural Pokolbin in the Hunter Valley.  We specialise in mature, premium, individual (single) vineyard table wines.

Our wine is available through the cellar door or direct - see the Order Wine Tab. One little quirk - we have the only boutique cellar door with a Rugby Union flavour, probably in the world. Wombat offers some of the better single vineyard Hunter wines that you might find!   We will be open on weekends on Saturdays (11.00am - 5.00PM) and on Sundays by appointment if we aren't open between 9.45am to 2.00pm that day.

We're on the AROUND HERMITAGE Wine and Food trailWe are in the quiet northern end of country Pokolbin, at 530 Hermitage Rd - 7 kl from Broke Road, or 5.3kl from the New England Highway. Come and discover Wombat, and enjoy a personalised wine tasting in our cellar.  The winegrower, Ian Napier, or our sommelier, Simon Brooker, will make you very welcome.  All our tastings use Riedel glasses, and we offer cheese and biscuits as part of your sit-down tasting.

Wombat Crossing Vineyard is one of the Hunter Valley's smallest boutique producers of fine table wines. The range of wines shown is modest in size but exceptional in quality.  Our vineyards were established from 1996, planted to the traditional forte of varieties for the Hunter Valley - Semillon, Shiraz and Chardonnay.  The first wines under our label were vintaged in 2005.  Each wine inherits its characteristics from the soils in its individual (single) paddock vineyard, naturally varied by the climate experienced during that vintage at our property.  At Wombat you taste the terroir in the wine!

Jeff Byrne (winemaker at Audrey Wilkinson) is our new winemaker since vintage 2010, and is doing a simply outstanding job!

We were awarded the Trophy for the Best 100% Hunter Valley Wine at the 2011 Clearview Hunter Valley Wine Show!  And the Trophy for the Best 2010 White Wine at the Hunter Valley Boutique Winemakers Show.  Our individual paddock Shiraz 2009 was awarded the trophy as the best Hunter Valley red wine at the awards lunch.  I was absolutely delighted to receive this award.  Then at the HV Boutique Wine show we received the top 2010 Chardonnay trophy for our individual paddock Chardonnay 2010 - that proves out the 'blood line' of our Chardonnay paddock following gold, silver and bronze awards at recent wine shows.  In addition, during the recent wine shows, our wines were awarded two top-gold medals, three silver medals and seven bronze medals - suggesting that the little Wombat with only 650 cases produced each year is really punching above its weight...

The 2011 Spring Lunch for our Wombat Crossing Vineyard Field and Wine Club members was held on Saturday 10 September 2011, and was a sell out success!  Our members enjoyed the release of two trophy wines, and Julz as usual cooked up a storm at Cracked Pepper.  Our friends from Wombat Rescue (Kev, Roz and Robin) put in an appearance with two small wombats during the pre-luncheon drinks, where Bridget Hall (violin) and Arran Hamilton (cello) entertained us with light classical music.  The Wine Options game was won by Bill Barnard.  We raised $2800 for Wombat Rescue for the anaesthetic machine Roz needs, with Graham Henry winning the prize of a weekend for 4 at The Burrows.  Shown below is our sommelier, Simon Brooker, with a friend!

The Burrows Lodge at Wombat Crossing Vineyard provides luxury accommodation for 2 couples (who then enjoy the use of the complete lodge) each weekend.  Our lodge is newly built and fully furnished, and has been prepared to an equivalent of a 5 star level.  It provides the location for your ultimate vineyard escape weekend. It is self catering, with a light continental breakfast, cheese and a bottle of our wine provided.  It is fully contained so you can enjoy a very private weekend in the vineyards. Our Wine and Field Club Members enjoy a 6 month booking period (so you can plan ahead for the great concerts in the valley), and then remaining weekends are opened for booking out 8 weeks from today.  Members should book directly with the vineyard to get a 10% discount and a free third night.  (See Stay@Wombat Tab!)
